We aim to educate the family and help set them free from the constant fear and worry, enabling them to start living and enjoying their own lives once again Understanding Addiction Our programme assists in clearing away some of the debris of the past and shows the family how to prioritise their own needs as individuals and how they can be of real support to their loved one in moving forward. Naturally, most will want to support their newly sober loved one but not know how, as all attempts in the past have failed miserably. The family will find that they too have much healing to do. The family’s lives become consumed by the addict’s world they come to know and expect chaos and fear on a daily basis. In some cases this causes the family to go to extreme lengths, even breaking their own moral code and endangering their own well being and financial security. The family will have endured years of manipulation, lying, stealing, cheating and fear whilst trying to help their loved one save themselves from self destructing. Recovery is all about change for the better so with this in mind, the family too will need to make some changes in order to adapt to and support their newly sober loved one.įor an addict or alcoholic to regain trust and rebuild their personal relationships, stopping the drink or drugs simply isn’t enough. The truth of addiction is that it has a tremendous ripple effect on all of the lives that the sufferers touch, family being the main concern. If the family are to move forward and heal, certain issues need to be aired and addressed. There is no doubt that loving an addict or alcoholic is painful their self destruction and problematic behaviours cause years of pent up resentment, guilt and blame within those that are close to them.
